Yavapai Point

The Grand Canyon offers many stunning vantage points, one of them being Yavapai Point. This viewing area is located approximately five miles from the south entrance of the Grand Canyon National Park. It is approximately one mile east of Grand Canyon Village and offers spectacular views. You can see the Colorado River and Phantom Ranch from this point. In addition, the Bright Angel and North Kaibab trails can be seen also. This area is a spectacular place to view the setting sun.

Looking Back at Yavapi Point

There is an observation station for visitors to enjoy that has exhibits about the Grand Canyon including its incredible geology. Here you will learn about the fossils of the canyon and get to see amazing views from the large windows. If you need to pick up a souvenir this is the perfect place. There are books and other items at this station in addition to knowledgeable park rangers who can answer all your questions about the canyon. From here, you can also sign up for guided tours led by the park rangers.

This point is only one of the amazing stops along the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. Perhaps the most amazing thing about the canyon is its massive size. It spans 277 miles in length and ranges from 4 to 18 miles wide. It is one mile deep, which is quite spectacular in person. You will see the multicolored rock layers that date back millions of years. The Grand Canyon is a natural work of art that has been at least six million years in the making. Some of the formations feature rock that dates back as far as the Precambrian era.

Yavapai Point should definitely be a stop on your Grand Canyon journey. The Grand Canyon is located within the Grand Canyon National Park, which is one of the oldest national parks. There are lots of great places to stay in the park including historic lodges dating back to the early 20th century. When you visit the park, you get to see not only the amazing Grand Canyon but also the incredible architecture. There's no doubt about it -- the Grand Canyon is a wonderful place to visit.
